SJM Macao Open 2025 Successfully Enhances Macao’s Status as the “City of Sports”

  • This year’s SJM Macao Open attracted some of golf’s biggest names, including Lee Westwood and Sungjae Im.
  • Six local Macau players joined the 144-player lineup.

Jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government (MSB), title sponsor SJM Resorts, S.A. and IMG, and co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Macau Golf Association, the SJM Macao Open 2025 proved another huge success, with 28-year-old German Dominic Foos proving victorious.

The popular golf tournament took place from 16 to 19 October at the Macau Golf & Country Club. This year’s tournament boasted a strong field of world-class golfers, including former world number one and 1999 Macao Open champion Lee Westwood alongside two-time PGA Tour champion and former Masters runner-up Sungjae Im, among other elite players.

From legends to rising stars, the prestigious tournament also provides a vital platform for upcoming young talent to compete against some of the best, playing a key role in the development of their golfing careers.

Six local Macau players joined the 144-player lineup with 24-year-old Ma Kaijun and 22-year-old Kelvin Si Ngai leading the group after finishing on par and one-over respectively with two rounds of play.

During tournament week, three community events introduced golf basics to local students, engaging over 100 participants who interacted with the stars like Taichi Kho, Ding Wenyi and Kelvin Si Ngai. The “SJM Macao Open 2025 Community Golf Fun Day,” held on 12 October at the Ponte 16 Outdoor Plaza, served as a prelude to the tournament, introduced the sport to the students and the wider community while enhancing public interest in golf. The “School Golf Discovery Day” on 16 October and the “Golf Clinic” on 17 October promoted athletic exchange, with golfers demonstrating accurate shots and fluid swings. Students also enjoyed hands-on practice from putting to chipping, learning the fundamentals of golf.

Many golf enthusiasts came along with family and friends to watch the world class action, enjoy the spectacular setting of the Macau Golf & Country Club and explore the tournament fan village as awareness and interest in golf continues to grow in Macau’s dynamic sports landscape.
