• The “2025 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon” attracted 12,000 participants from 49 countries and regions, showcasing Macau’s vibrant sporting spirit.
• GEG team members and community volunteers from the “GEG Run with a Partner Training Program” participated in the Marathon with athletes from Macau Special Olympics, promoting society harmony and inclusion.

The “2025 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon” officially kicked off on the morning of 7 December, infusing the city with vibrant sporting spirit and urban vitality.

Jointly organized by the Sports Bureau, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, the event commenced with an opening ceremony officiated by O Lam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture; Lei Si Leng, Acting President of the Sports Bureau; Francis Lui, Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group; Buddy Lam, Director of Corporate Affairs of Galaxy Entertainment Group ; and Chan Pou Sin, President of the General Association of Athletics of Macau. Following the starting signal, 12,000 runners from 49 countries and regions sprinted off the starting line, challenging themselves and competing for glory on the streets of Macau.

Once again, GEG demonstrated its strong team spirit and enthusiasm for sports, with team members actively taking part and winning the “Active Group Trophy – Public and Private Entities” for the 21st consecutive year. In addition, GEG continued to promote green vision this year by collaborating with local enterprise to produce race packs with eco-friendly materials, aiming to raise environmental awareness through this major event. The “Most Creative Costume Award” was also held for the tenth consecutive year, allowing participants to fully showcase their creativity while enjoying the marathon.

At the same time, athletes with special needs from the “GEG Run with a Partner Training Program”, together with its volunteers, also participated in the marathon. The initiative, jointly launched by GEG and the Macau Special Olympics in 2019, providing regular training and race support for athletes with special needs. Marking its fifth anniversary this year, GEG and Macau Special Olympics further expanded the program’s scale, individuals from different sectors of society, such as students and social service volunteers, were invited to become volunteer runners, which strengthened the spirit of inclusion.

Volunteer runners were paired with athletes according to their physical conditions and pacing needs, engaging in weekly long-distance training sessions that included interval runs, tempo runs and endurance training to progressively build trust and coordination. Since its launch in June, volunteer runners from the GEG Runners Club under the GEG Staff Social Club, as well as from the wider community, have been training side-by-side with athletes with special needs, preparing for the marathon held on Sunday.

In addition, the “2025 Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon Carnival”, took place on 6 and 7 December at Broadway Food Street, Broadway Macau. The lively two-day event attracted large crowds of residents and visitors.

The carnival featured multiple interactive zones, including themed photo walls, classic game booths, a “Marathon x Cultural Creativity” product display area and music and dance performances, offering participants a experience that combined entertainment with fitness culture. Lucky draws were also held, offering prizes such as electronic gadgets, hotel stays and dining vouchers, bringing extra interactive experience to the audience.

As one of the major annual sporting events, the Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon serves not only as a stage for athletic excellence but also as an important platform to promote public health and social inclusion. By integrating “Sports + Tourism”, it showcases Macau’s diverse charm to the world and contributes to the city’s development as a leading “City of Sports”.
