Caring for the planet
WE USE FSC PAPER
FSC-Certified paper refers to paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, an organization promoting sustainable forestry around the world. To be FSC-Certified, paper must meet certain standards set by the FSC including wood sourced from sustainably managed forests. In particular, the FSC requires its certified products to have a proven “chain of custody” from forest to manufacturer to merchant to printer, as well as a management plan detailing the scale of logging and efforts to renew logged forest areas.
FSC-Certified paper is not necessarily recycled paper – wood from a well-managed forest can be just as eco-friendly – but it does mean that suppliers have been proven to work towards protecting habitats, preventing pollution, avoiding harm or displacement to wildlife and planting more new trees than they harvest.
WE USE SOY INK
As the name suggests, soy ink is an ink made from soybeans rather than from petroleum as in traditional ink products. It is therefore a far more environmentally-friendly product both in terms of its production and waste.
During production, soybean crops require no irrigation, limited fixed nutrients, and leave fewer agricultural residues than other crops. They also reduce air pollution due to lower levels of volatile organic compounds, meaning fewer toxic emissions.
Post-production, soy ink degrades four times faster than petroleum inks and also aids in paper recycling due to it being easier to remove than traditional inks.
Although slower to dry than some other inks, soy ink has the added benefit of providing more accurate colors.
