The new brand logo

Macau CSR becomes New Macau

The media brand you are reading now, which launched precisely one year ago on 1 January 2023 under the name of Macau CSR, has changed its name and brand to New Macau from today, 1 January 2024. The new Chinese name, 新澳門經濟, translates to “new Macau economy”.

While the CSR and ESG concepts remain important to us, the Macau government has shifted its focus to emphasize economic diversification for the SAR over the next ten years, and Macau’s six major tourism enterprises have committed no less than MOP 109 billion (US$13.6 billion) to this goal in the decade to 31 December 2032.

The government has introduced the “tourism+” concept, also referred to “1+4”, with the “1” representing tourism and the “4” highlighting four new areas of economic activity for Macau: Big Health; New Tech; Modern Finance; and Sports, Arts and Culture. The Macau government also proposed 11 alternative areas of economic activity for Macau’s six major tourism enterprises during the 2022 re-tendering process for those enterprises.

While economic diversification was one of the categories of the Macau CSR brand, the concept has now gained such major prominence for the future of Macau that we have decided to make it the fundamental driving concept of this media brand. Hence, the change of name to New Macau.

We will keep the same look and feel, colors, branding and logo style, so there will be a feeling of continuity, and the 2024 year will still be considered the second year of this brand. Over the month of January, we will change numerous pages of our website, as well as our digital weekly newsletter, to reflect the new branding.

New Macau will initially focus on no less than twenty specific areas, predominantly related to economic diversification, but also with a nod to our social responsibility roots. All 20, which may be added to in the months and years ahead, are areas that have been recently highlighted by the Macau government as important to Macau’s future, and they are:
