The “Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao SAR: MGM Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza & Macao Open Artistic Swimming Competition 2024” was held in late June at the Aquatic Centre of the Olympic Sports Centre.
The year’s event attracted nearly 200 young artistic swimmers from 17 teams hailing from Beijing, Tianjin, Sichuan, Chongqing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, as well as from Hong Kong and Macau. The event also featured performances by three top-tier teams – the Beijing Artistic Swimming Team, the Jiangsu Artistic Swimming Team and the Sichuan Artistic Swimming Team – during the opening and closing ceremony, bringing a “water ballet” splash to Macau.
Nearly 3,000 tickets were distributed for free to the public, demonstrating spectators’ enthusiasm for artistic swimming. The event also highlighted the growing popularity of artistic swimming in Macau.
MGM also hosted its first-ever “Artistic Swimming Master Class” where approximately 60 young competing athletes from various cities were selected to join. Pansy Ho, Chairperson and Executive Director of MGM China Holdings Limited, said the master class “served as a platform to strengthen young athletes’ technical proficiency with the aim to drive them to bigger competing stages, meanwhile fostering new friendships with like-minded individuals and showcasing Macau’s vitality and enthusiasm as the ‘city of sports’.”
MGM emphasized that by creating a one-stop sports tourism experience combining competition and advanced training exchanges, it strives to boost the “tourism + sports” initiative and help reinforce Macau as the hub for artistic swimming in the Greater Bay Area.
The event was presented by MGM and organized by the Associação Geral de Natação de Macau with the support of the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government.
