Melco sponsored “World School Basketball Championship 2024” in Macau

  • The Melco-sponsored World School Basketball Championship 2024 promotes economic diversification and talent development in Macau.
  • The championship saw 37 teams from 20 countries and regions, with nearly 600 coaches and exceptional young athletes competing for the title.

Melco Resorts & Entertainment has sponsored the “World School Basketball Championship 2024” held in Macau. Organized by the International School Sport Federation (ISF) and hosted by the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), this event brings together top secondary school basketball talent from around the globe.

The championship saw 37 teams from 20 countries and regions, with nearly 600 coaches and exceptional young athletes competing for the title through 117 matches.

Clarence Chung, Melco Board Advisor, said, “Melco will continue to support the government’s ‘1+4’ diversification development strategy and policies for local talent development, delivered through a wide array of innovative and exciting collaborations and initiatives to reinforce Macau’s position as a world center for tourism and leisure.”

Beyond supporting the championship, 40 local community basketball team members from Macau Special Olympics (MSO) and Richmond Fellowship of Macau (RFM) were invited to meet with and learn from the coach and athletes of the championship’s Team China. The event was hosted at Studio City’s Seer Arena, with Melco’s Volunteer Team providing additional support.

In addition, Melco’s REACH! Team and Volunteer Team members further participated in a special Cultural Day hosted at the University of Macau to promote basketball. Melco also actively supported MSO with a special booth to promote the organization’s dedicated services for athletes with intellectual disabilities, as well as MSO’s talented Basketball Team.

During the championship, Melco organized local sightseeing tours for over 700 student-athletes and staff, including a visit to Studio City and a special welcome dinner hosted at the venue.
