Melco Resorts & Entertainment has collaborated with the pioneering multi-dimensional art space, Artelli, to present a major comprehensive exhibition titled “Crowning Journey of Jean-Michel Basquiat” by the legendary artist at City of Dreams Macau.
This exhibition, which opened in late September, features large-scale art installations, multimedia setups, immersive experiences and interactive elements spread across four zones within the City of Dreams integrated resort.
At the Main Portal, a cluster of art installations transports visitors into the vibrant cityscape of 1980s New York to discover the evolution of Basquiat’s world. At the center of the entrance, a towering 7-meter-tall dinosaur sculpture, inspired by Basquiat’s iconic 1984 piece “Pez Dispenser” (also known as “Dinosaur with Crown”), is on display.
In the Southwest Entrance outdoor area, a 10-meter-high installation of his renowned work “Brown Spots (Portraits of Andy Warhol as a Banana)” (1984) stands tall. The façade of The Showroom at City of Dreams has been transformed into a giant art canvas showcasing “Grillo” (1984), crowned by a massive crown installation measuring about 10 meters in diameter and 6 meters in height. Visitors can also explore the legendary world of Basquiat’s creations through an immersive experience at Artelli.
Timothy M. Kelly, Property President of City of Dreams Macau, stated, “We are honored to introduce the legendary artist Jean-Michel Basquiat’s ‘Crowning Journey’ to Macau for the first time in association with City of Dreams. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to the Macao Government Tourism Office and Cultural Affairs Bureau for their support on this ‘Crowning Journey’. City of Dreams will continue to adhere to our commitment on supporting the Macao SAR government’s initiatives on diversified economy development through bringing unique and innovative cultural entertainment experiences to Macau residents and visitors.”
