Official licensed merchandise flagship store for Macau Competition Zone opens as National Games fervor intensifies

  • Official licensed merchandise flagship store for the National Games Macau Competition Zone formally opens.
  • The flagship store showcases a diversified industrial layout, further promoting Macau’s economic diversification.

To foster a vibrant atmosphere of nationwide participation, the Preparatory Office for the Organization of the Macau Competition Zone held an inauguration ceremony for the Macao Official Licensed Merchandise Store at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion on 1 August, marking the official launch of related commemorative merchandise.

The flagship store serves not only as a retail space but also as a cultural hub that promotes sports heritage and offers interactive experiences, becoming a key venue for residents and visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Games.

The commemorative items on display, including plush toys, badges, lifestyle goods and handcrafted pieces, were specially designed for the 2025 National Games. Incorporating elements from Macau’s UNESCO-listed landmarks and competition themes, these limited-edition collections reflect the city’s unique cultural identity and aim to preserve the spirit of the event in tangible form, fostering a meaningful connection between the Games and the community.

The 15th National Games are jointly hosted by Guangdong Province, the Hong Kong SAR and the Macao SAR. This marks the first time since the National Games in 1959 that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau triumvirate has collaborated to organize the event. The National Games emblem, embodying the concepts of “prosperity and inclusiveness”, features overlapping and intertwining petals of the kapok, bauhinia and lotus flowers, symbolizing the unity and integration of the three regions. The mascots, “Xiyangyang” and “Lerongrong”, are modeled after the rare Chinese white dolphin, representing harmony and unity.

The National Games slogan is “Play for the Dreams in GBA”, while the NSGO adopts “Dream for the Games in GBA” as its theme. Both expressions convey a spirit of progress, inclusion and shared aspiration. The previous Games were held in Shaanxi in 2021, while this edition’s hosting across Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau highlights a new chapter in sports cooperation within the Greater Bay Area.

The National Games serve not only as a stage for athletes to showcase their prowess but also as a sporting extravaganza for all citizens. The launch of licensed merchandise will integrate National Games elements into daily life, enabling residents to personally participate in this sporting carnival. Through consumption, they can support the event while creating cherished keepsakes.

Notably, the integration of cultural and creative design with licensed merchandise sales presents fresh collaboration and development opportunities for local cultural enterprises, retail and tourism-related industries. This aligns with the SAR Government’s “Tourism +” strategy and “1+4” diversified industrial layout, further advancing Macau’s economic diversification.
