Art For All Society’s dual exhibitions to launch at Macau Orient Foundation this Friday

  • Art For All Society will hold an opening ceremony for its two latest exhibitions this Friday.
  • The event aims to establish a platform connecting Macau artists with the public.

The opening ceremony for the dual exhibitions, “AFA Autumn Salon 2025” and “Surrealistic Chinoiserie: Golden City of Seres – A Cultural and Artistic Exchange Exhibition and Performance between Macao and Antwerp”, will be held this Friday 24 October at the Macau Oriental Foundation’s Casa Garden.

“AFA Autumn Salon 2025” is co-organized by Art For All Society (AFA) and the Orient Foundation, while “Surrealistic Chinoiserie: Golden City of Seres” – is organized by the AFA.

Marking its sixteenth edition, the “AFA Autumn Salon 2025” is curated by Julia Lam Tsz Kwan and Leong Kit Man under the theme “Homecoming: A Reunion Amidst the Light and Shadow of History”, marking a heartfelt return to the newly restored historic mansion of the Orient Foundation.

It features 56 participating artists presenting approximately 90 works. These encompass diverse forms including Chinese painting, oil painting, watercolor, sculpture, photography, ceramics, installation, video and digital art, showcasing the multifaceted vitality of contemporary art in Macau.

The event will also showcase AFA’s two-year project “Surrealistic Chinoiserie: Golden City of Seres – A Cultural and Artistic Exchange Exhibition and Performance between Macao and Antwerp”, curated by Alice Kok.

Centered on the theme of “Surrealistic Chinoiserie”, this project employs interdisciplinary collaboration across visual arts, dance, music and costume design to present an artistic dialogue where Eastern and Western cultures interweave, and the classical meets the futuristic. Visual artist Leong Chi Mou explores the idea of “new-type silk” through brass and steel mesh works painted with acrylic, creating a landscape that is both familiar and estranged.

The Autumn Salon aims to establish a platform connecting Macau artists with the public. The curatorial team conducted an open call for submissions across Macau, receiving applications from artists spanning diverse media and age groups. This year’s selection process received over 176 entries.
