Since Sands Gallery launched the special exhibition “A Century of Iec Long Firecracker Factory in Radiance” in March, the show has successfully guided visitors through the century-long splendor and urban memories of Macau’s firecracker industry and has received high praise from local residents and visitors from home and abroad.
In response to the positive public reception and to further deepen the revitalization impact, the exhibition period will be extended for three months, until 29 November.
As Macau’s largest surviving firecracker industrial site and the most intact in the South China Sea region, the Iec Long Firecracker Factory revitalization represents both the preservation of industrial heritage and a concrete step towards sharing a century-old story.
To bring this piece of Macau’s historical memory to a wider community, public guided tours will continue to be offered every Wednesday and Friday at 3pm and 4pm, while special guided sessions are available to schools and community groups by reservation.
At the same time, the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST) Library is hosting the parallel exhibition “Legacy of Time – An Exhibition of Historical Documents on Macao’s Firecracker Industry.” Centered on historical documents, it creates a synergistic effect with the main display at Sands Gallery, bringing firecracker history into campuses and local communities. This complementary exhibition will also be extended through 29 November.
Since its opening, the exhibition has drawn residents, schools, associations and travelers from mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, India, Russia, the United States and Europe. It has also facilitated deep exchanges with descendants of firecracker factory families, international collectors and cultural enthusiasts.
