In collaboration with the National Museum of China and the Zibo Ceramics and Glass Museum, MGM is presenting its annual exhibition, “Luminous Brilliance: The Artistry of Zibo Liuli.”

Featuring nearly 180 historic and contemporary liuli masterpieces, the show traces over 3,000 years of Chinese glassmaking history, offering a comprehensive narrative of liuli as a medium of cross-cultural exchange through artifacts, national intangible cultural heritage techniques, and innovations at the intersection of art and technology.

The show unfolds across three chapters. “Forging a Millennium Legacy” traces the roots of Chinese glassmaking through treasures such as dragonfly-eye glass beads, Boshan kiln relics,and Qing dynasty court glass. “Eternal Iridescence” highlights liuli’s vibrant aesthetics through techniques including blowing and lost-wax casting. “Exquisite Objects of Timeless Elegance” closes the journey with contemporary works emphasizing dialogue across global artistic traditions.

Designed to reflect Macau’s cultural identity, the exhibition incorporates Lingnan architectural elements and a central liuli-themed garden bridging its historical and contemporary chapters. Works by Dale Chihuly, drawn from the MGM collection, are displayed alongside Chinese liuli pieces, underscoring the exchange between Eastern and Western glassmaking traditions.

Poly Culture’s patented holographic cases bring the craft’s heritage to life through interactive, sensory-rich storytelling, letting visitors follow the full process of liuli creation – from raw material selection to carving – while admiring signature works such as the Grape Shaped Glass Bottle and Butterflies and Spirit Serpent Floral Crown. Outdoor installations at MGM MACAU’s Grande Praça extend the exhibition beyond the gallery, inviting visitors to engage with the beauty of liuli.
