The World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao 2023 presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, World Table Tennis (WTT) and Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), will be held at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion from 17 to 23 April 2023.
The event follows the successful WTT Champions Macao 2020, 2021 and 2022, all presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, with the 2023 event to see the schedule expanded to seven days allowing greater scope for locals and tourists alike to soak up the action.
WTT was created by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) in 2019 as a subsidiary of the ITTF with a mandate to present world-class table tennis in an exciting revamped professional format, with substantially increased prize money and expanded marketing, promotion and television coverage. Since the established of WTT in 2019, eight WTT championships have been organized annually.
The male and female singles championships in Macau will feature a total of 64 world-class elite players. According to the WTT world rankings, the top three men’s singles players are Ma Long, Fan Zhendong and Wang Chuqin, with the top three women’s singles players being Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu and Chen Meng. All six are from China, and all will be competing in the Macau event for their share of the total US$800,000 prize money.

During a recent press conference at Banyan Tree Hotel, Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, explained, “WTT organized three large-scale international table tennis events in Macau in the past three years, all of which had been welcomed by local residents and tourists, leading to a table tennis craze.”
“This year’s schedule will increase from the previous five to now seven days, so a larger audience will have a chance to enjoy the exciting matches, and tourists from outside Macau will extend the duration of their visit.”

Mr Philip Cheng, Director of Galaxy Entertainment Group, said, “GEG has been proactively supporting Macau in organizing different international sports events through multi-pronged approaches. This year, for the first time ever, we are honored to join the Sports Bureau and the WTT as co-organizers of the ‘WTT Champions Macao 2023’, a reform of the WTT tournament of which GEG has been a presenting partner for three consecutive times since its debut in Macau in 2020”.
Cheng hopes that this new style of event collaboration will foster and further promote the cross-sectoral integration of “sports+tourism” and help to promote the “1+4” diversification development strategy of Macau, which seeks to promote Macau as a “World Center of Tourism and Leisure”.
He also revealed that, as one of this year’s event organizers, GEG will launch a range of promotional activities during the competition aimed at drawing more local residents and tourists to attend this international event.
