The 33rd Macau Arts Festival, organized by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (ICM), will be held from 28 April to 23 May. The theme of this year’s edition is “The Long Artistic Journey”, with 20 selected programs to be presented.
This year’s festival includes drama, Chinese opera, dance, music and visual arts. Renowned Chinese dancer Yang Liping will open this year’s festival with her work “Rite of Spring”. Overseas art groups will also return to Macau to perform at the festival, including the Portuguese contemporary dance company “On the Substance of Time”.
In addition to mainland and overseas artists, local Macau artists account for nearly half of festival performances, with content combining creativity, technology, thinking and the human condition.
Leong Wai Man, Director of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, said at a press conference to promote the arts festival, “The total budget of this year’s Macao Arts Festival is approximately MOP$22 million and there are a total of 46 extension activities, including artist talks, backstage exploration, pre-show guided tours, lectures, workshops and more.”
She hopes that local artists would have development opportunities through the festival, and she hopes to promote Macao’s positioning as a Chinese cultural exchange base.
