FAOM Chong Pak Center organized workshop for the elderly to experience the joy of creation

The Chong Pak Center is one of the elderly service centers run by the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM). The center was established in 1988 and it provides services to address the different needs of the elderly such as practical, recreational, and informational activities to enrich the leisure life of the elderly, explore their potential, and actively develop community resources for them.

Recently the Chong Pak Center held a special event called “Floating Color Bear Stress Relief Workshop”, allowing the elderly to participate in the workshop to create color fluid paint covered bears. Through this creation process, the elderly enjoyed the fun of artistic creation and lifted their spirits, creating friendship among the participants.

The elderly participants of the workshop needed to concentrate on slowly adjusting the direction of paint flow. The most interesting part was when adding new color and rotating the bear, as the appearance of the artwork alters. The final result will not become apparent until the end of the process. The whole production process of the workshop is kept at a relaxed and pleasant pace. The elderly participants were allowed to freely create their unique personal works while having fun.

Some participants said they were worried in the beginning they might not have the talent for art creation, but after the activity, they found that they needn’t worry. One said, “We just need to relax and tune out for the desired color. By looking at the paint floating on the bear, it is a kind of healing for the soul.”
