Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and Macau’s Labor Affairs Bureau (DSAL) recently co-organized the “Integrated Resort Youth Development Program”, with the opening ceremony held on 23 May.
The program supports the Macao SAR Government’s policy of “Building Macau Through Talent Training” by prioritizing the employment of local talent and providing comprehensive training and career development opportunities for Macau residents who are willing to join the tourism and leisure service industry.
Wong Chi Hong, Director of DSAL; Lei Lai Keng, Head of Employment Department of DSAL; Eileen Lui, Group Director of Human Resources and Administration of GEG; and Kevin Kelley, Chief Operating Officer – Macau of GEG were officiating guests at the opening ceremony. GEG team members who have participated in the program were invited onstage to share their journey and development prospects. During the sharing, they all thanked the Labor Affairs Bureau and GEG for the valuable opportunity, and explained how the program helped lay a solid foundation for their future career path.
Director Wong Chi Hong said in his speech, “DSAL attaches great importance to talent cultivation and thanks GEG for its support and cooperation to jointly launch the ‘Integrated Resort Youth Development Program’, with an aim of fostering employment and upward mobility of local residents whilst facilitating quality development of the tourism sector. We are also greatly encouraged by the Program’s keen participation and the fact that the number of admissions are beyond our expectations. We hope the Program can offer participants professional knowledge, skills, and valuable work experience.”
Eileen Lui said, “I would like to express my sincere gratitude to DSAL for its continuous guidance and support to the Program. GEG pledges to support Macau’s development and constantly allocates resources to provide local residents with various employment opportunities, and spares no effort in cultivating Macau’s future leaders, in hopes of enhancing the city’s talent reserve and quality of industry experts. We look forward to seeing more outstanding talents grow and make great strides in their future careers.”

The “Integrated Resort Youth Development Program” was carefully planned by GEG for nearly half a year and attracted Macau residents who intend to develop in the hospitality service industry in areas such as catering, housekeeping and VIP reception through two career development recruitment days, along with other promotional activities. The program offers up to 300 hours of professional training within a 12-month period.
Due to the enthusiastic response and positive feedback received since its launch, GEG has increased the number of training quota to more than 50.

In yet another talent cultivation initiative, titled sponsored by GEG and hosted by the National Conditions Education Association (Macau), the 15th “GEG Macau Cup –Youth National Education Competition” was held at the Broadway Theatre at Broadway Macau on 25 May. With a theme of “Science and Technological Innovation – Modern China”, this year’s competition attracted 23 secondary schools and six tertiary education institutions forming teams to participate in the final. After multiple rounds of fierce competition, Hou Kong Middle School (Team A), Kao Yip Middle School (Team B) and Macao Polytechnic University were declared champions.

Mr Philip Cheng, Director of GEG, said, “As the first integrated resort operator to promote national education, GEG strongly believes that ‘education engenders a strong country’ and proactively strengthen youths’ and team members’ understanding of the country’s latest development and achievements whilst supporting science education through multi-pronged approaches. Through the national education competition, we hope that students can be inspired to strive for innovation and advance with the times, whilst keeping abreast of China’s national conditions and achievements to integrate into the national development and contribute to our Motherland and Macau.”
Over the years, GEG has vigorously promoted and supported the education of national conditions for local youth, recognizing the importance of national conditions knowledge for their growth and character development. Since 2009, with 15 consecutive years of title sponsorship from GEG, the competition has attracted an accumulated participation of nearly 120,000 students from local schools and universities, aimed at enhancing youth recognition of motherland China to develop a sense of national pride and promoting the spirit of patriotism and love for Macau.
