Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) recently joined hands with relevant departments of the Macau SAR Government on holding an “Emergency Preparedness Talk for the Elderly” for the fifth consecutive year, introducing knowledge about disaster preparedness to users of the Peng On Tung Tele-Assistance Service (“Peng On Tung”), with GEG volunteers in the evacuation drills.

The 2023 Emergency Preparedness Talk and Evacuation Drill for the Elderly was jointly organized by GEG, the Unitary Police Service, the Public Security Police Force, the Social Welfare Bureau, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau of the Macau SAR Government and Peng On Tung. It was held on the afternoon of 8 August, attracting a total of 60 elderly and 25 members of the GEG volunteer team.

During the event, volunteers and representatives from different government departments shared typhoon-related civil defense information with the elderly users, including “Storm Surge Evacuation Plan in Low-lying Areas during Typhoon”, “Guideline for Disaster Prevention During Storm Surge” and “Signal Alarm for Evacuation for Higher Areas and Low-lying Areas during Storm Surge”, while evacuation drills were also added to the content, with the expectation of enhancing the safety awareness and risk avoidance ability of the elderly and the public.

GEG volunteers also assisted the elderly in learning more about disaster prevention and civil defense. Leaflets of evacuation plans during typhoon periods were also delivered to the elderly to help increase their disaster prevention awareness. After the event, GEG volunteers distributed “Family Kits” that consisted of different daily necessities to the elderly users of Peng On Tung to help them get well prepared for the typhoon season, thereby extending care and love to the community whilst facilitating community exchanges.
