GEG title-sponsors series of activities to support Macau athletes in preparing for the Asian Games

The 2023 Asian Games held from 23 September in Hangzhou are of special significance to Macau athletes, with Macau sending more than 180 athletes to take part across 21 different sports. All walks of life in Macau actively supported the athletes’ participation in the games through various initiatives to provide backing to Macau athletes. In particular, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) title-sponsored the “Galaxy Entertainment Group Presents – We Are Macau Athletes” series of activities. The events were hosted by Macau Sports Channel and supported by the Sports Bureau together with the Education and Youth Development Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, with aims of showing Macau athletes’ tenacious spirit to the public and supporting them competing in the Asian Games.

With a series of activities that will last until December, several local athletes from different sports have been invited to join the community outreach program and interact with nearly 350 residents through sharing sessions. Through sharing their sports journey and their perseverance in overcoming difficulties, the activities allow the public to further understand and support local athletes. They also provide an opportunity for the public to communicate with the athletes on a personal level.

Many athletes who join the “Galaxy Entertainment Group Presents – We Are Macau Athletes” series of activities are also members of the Macau delegation, including martial arts athlete Huang Junhua, a second gold medalist for Macau at the last Asian Games; Hoi Long, a bronze medalist in the women’s individual triathlon competition of the 18th Asian Games; Kuok Kin Hang who won the first ever medal for Macau at China’s National Games in the men’s karate bronze medal match; Law Weng Sam who will participate in the beach volleyball event of the Asian Games for the first time; and the “King of Breaststroke of Macau” Chao Man Hou who has set 29 Macau swimming records. They shared their preparations for the Asian Games with the public and showed their determination to achieve glory for Macau.

Beach volleyballer Law Weng Sam said that in addition to receiving support from Macau residents, the sharing session also attracted many elderly to participate. “A lot of residents came up and said, ‘Go for it, Macau athletes!’ Such simple words have left a profound meaning to me. It is a great spiritual recognition and support for us,” Law said.

In order to further support Macau athletes’ participation in the Asian Games, GEG also title-sponsored the Macao Daily News’ promotional project “Preparing for the Asian Games”. GEG wants to use these occasions to facilitate the continuous development of sports in Macau, to promote sports exchanges in the community, to showcase the Group’s support for Macau’s hosting of large-scale sports events, and to encourage local athletes to produce their finest performances in the Asian Games.
