GEG hosts classical music stars at launch of Galaxy Macau Phase 3

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) recently showcased its commitment to supporting local talent and promoting the cultural and music industries in Macau and mainland China by hosting a special performance from globally acclaimed soprano Ms He Hui and conductor Mr Lio Kuokman.

Ms He was one of the star attractions at the Grand Opening Ceremony of GEG’s Galaxy Macau Phase 3 development, which was held with the inspiring theme “The Future. Diversified. Celebrating Macau’s New Cultural & Entertainment Landmark”.

The singer was accompanied by around 50 musicians from the Macao Orchestra. The performance was conducted by Music Director and Principal Conductor Lio Kuokman, who also contributed an inspiring piano performance which elevated the atmosphere to new heights.

He Hui is renowned as one of the best soprano singers in the world and at present the only Chinese singer to be invited to perform at each of the world’s top six prestigious Opera Houses. She is also the only Chinese opera singer to perform heroine roles at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.

Likewise, the Macau-born Lio Kuokman is currently one of the highest-profile Chinese conductors on the international stage, praised by the Philadelphia Inquirer as “a startling conducting talent.” He is highly active on the international stage, holding the prestigious honor of being the first Chinese conductor to conduct with the Vienna Philharmonic – itself founded in 1842 and considered to be one of the finest in the world. Lio was also invited by the French government to lead the first Saudi Arabia performance tour with Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse.

Macao Orchestra is Macau’s unique professional symphony orchestra, comprising elite musicians from various countries and regions. Macao Orchestra also is the city’s cultural ambassador whereby it actively promotes the SAR’s cultural landscape and musical features, so the performance at the opening of Galaxy Macau Phase 3 was particularly apt.

GEG has proactively organized and supported various arts and cultural activities in recent times, propelling community exchanges through a range of approaches supporting Macau’s development as the “Base for Exchange and Cooperation where Chinese Culture is the Mainstream and Diverse Cultures Coexist”.

As such, it was also among the co-organizers of the Macao Orchestra 2023-24 concert season, and the title-presenter of the “Galaxy Entertainment Group Christmas Presents: Makoto Ozone with Macao Orchestra” held on December 23 at the Galaxy International Convention Center Auditorium. The program was the first jazz and classical music feast held at the Galaxy Auditorium.

These performances not only showcased Macau’s multi-cultural charm, they also embodied GEG’s dedicated support of local musical talent and the sustainable development of Macau’s music industry.
