The “Women’s Volleyball Nations League 2024 Macao presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group” was successfully held from 28 May to 2 June at the Galaxy Arena, Macau’s newest and largest indoor arena. The event was jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macau SAR Government, Galaxy Entertainment Group, and the Volleyball Association of Macao, China.
Returning to Macau after a four-year hiatus, the tournament brought together eight top women’s volleyball teams including China to compete for the best ranking in the league. The thrilling matches attracted numerous sports enthusiasts and volleyball fans from Macau and abroad.
The entire league runs from 14 May to 23 June, with Macau hosting one of the legs. The finals will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 20 to 23 June.
The Galaxy Arena, which opened in 2023, received high praise from team coaches, captains, staff and spectators during the pre-event press conference for providing an excellent environment and atmosphere for the competition.
Diverse community engagement activities
In addition to the main event, GEG and other organizers also co-hosted various extended activities during the tournament to enhance interaction between the Chinese team and local sports figures, volleyball enthusiasts, young athletes and fans, fostering community cohesion through sports.
On 21 May, Olympic champion and former captain of the Chinese women’s volleyball team, Wei Qiuyue, was invited to share her experiences at a lunch meeting with local sports representatives, volleyball elites, outstanding athletes and GEG volleyball team members.

On 24 May, at the “GEG Presents – Dialogue between the China Women’s Volleyball Team and Macao’s Youth”, current Chinese women’s volleyball players were invited to interact with representatives of the Volleyball Association of Macao, and over 10 members of the Macau youth volleyball team. The Chinese players also interacted with fans from different regions and signed autographs in Galaxy Macau’s East Square, creating a lively atmosphere.
Cheong Hou Wang, representative of the Macau Boys’ Volleyball Team, and Tang Chi Ian, captain of the Macau Girls’ Volleyball Team, expressed that they were thrilled to join this GEG-hosted insightful sharing and were inspired and motivated by the Chinese team’s participation. They believed that such activities help broaden the international horizons of young athletes in Macau.
Additionally, during the event, GEG supported local SMEs and social service organizations by setting up booths at the Galaxy Arena to help increase brand awareness and explore business opportunities. One of the participants, 8 BIT BLOCKS STUDIO, shared their positive experience, stating, “We are really thankful to GEG for offering us a new horizon and opportunity to expand our customer source via this international volleyball event. Together with the convenient and favorable environment for booth set up at the Galaxy Arena, this whole experience is greatly beneficial to local SMEs like us.”
GEG hopes to leverage sports events to organize various extended activities, supporting the development of local sports while allowing different community groups to experience the joy of sports and contributing to Macau’s development as a “City of Sports”.
