The Britcham Annual Charity Ball, a highlight of Macau’s social calendar, was held again this year with around 200 guests in attendance. Organized by the British Chamber of Commerce in Macau (Britcham), the event aims to support the Chamber’s professional management and raise funds for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
This year’s ball raised MOP63,000, adding to the existing CSR Fund. The Fund is dedicated to supporting local students who lack the necessary funding to continue their studies or pursue life-changing internships. Since the first Ball in 2009, Britcham has distributed over MOP760,000, assisting 29 local students. Notably, one student will be traveling to Worcester College, Oxford University, for the 2024 summer internship program focused on business acumen and artificial intelligence.
The raised funds this year will support sending two students to the 2025 Summer Schools in Cambridge and Oxford, UK, while also addressing smaller needs throughout the year. Britcham partners with educational institutions, such as the University of Saint Joseph, to identify deserving students for this support.
This year’s theme, inspired by the Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Center of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (The Union Hospital), celebrated the value of good health. The event featured a Wig in a Hat Karaoke competition, a Best Costumes contest, lucky draws and lively music from a band and DJ, keeping guests dancing until closing. The enthusiasm of the attendees and supporters made it a memorable and fun-filled night.
The management team of Britcham expressed their delight with the event’s success, noting that it exceeded expectations and was met with high praise from all attendees. The main sponsors of the event included Galaxy Entertainment Group, Lord Stow’s Bakery, MGM, CESL Asia, Sands China, Light & Wonder, Tong Lei Engineering & Construction Company Ltd, BNU, Jardine Matheson, MdME and MSS Recruitment.
