“GEG Sea Cruises: Fishing Heritage Leisure Tour”

  • GEG has launched its “GEG Sea Cruises: Fishing Heritage Leisure Tour” which will run until September.

GEG has integrated Macau’s unique fishing village cultural elements by launching the “GEG Sea Cruises: Fishing Heritage Leisure Tour” in July, in collaboration with the Fishermen’s Mutual Help Association of Macau.

GEG said the initiative aims to further elevate and enrich tourists’ maritime cultural tourism experience whilst supporting Macau’s traditional fisheries and its fishermen in upgrading and transforming, and driving forward the cross-sectoral integration of “tourism +” through practical actions.

The tour made its inaugural voyage in July. During the voyage, launched from the A-Ma Pier, Mr Chan Meng Kam, Director of the Fishermen’s Mutual Help Association of Macau, spoke to participants about Macau’s unique marine resources, culture and related historical events. He also took participants onto the ship deck to enjoy Macau’s urban and coastal scenery, passing by the city’s iconic architecture including the Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge, Sai Van Bridge, Kun Iam Ecumenical Center, GEG’s flagship property Galaxy Macau, and the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards – a revitalization project jointly launched by the Macau SAR Government and GEG.

Upon arriving at the Coloane Pier, GEG treated participants to a performance of “Saltwater Songs” – a dialectal folksong listed as one of Macau’s intangible heritages, sung by Mr Ho Kim Pui at a fishermen’s stilt house along the coast. The participants also had the pleasure of learning traditional fishing net weaving skills from local fishermen during a workshop.

According to GEG, from now until September, more tourist groups from different regions, and various local associations and organizations in Macau, will take part in the cruise.
