Sands China and Genyield Construction win Jinyu Award for three-year roof renovation project at The Venetian Macao

  • Sands China and Genyield Construction have won the Jinyu Award for the second time due to outstanding cooperation in engineering.
  • The project saw the metal roof of The Venetian Macao, covering an area of approximately 40,000 square meters, renovated over three years.

Sands China and local contractor Genyield Construction have won the “2024 Building Waterproofing Industry Science and Technology Award – Engineering Technology Award (Jinyu Award) – Gold Award” for their three-year, 40,000-square-metre metal roof renovation project at The Venetian Macao.

The Jinyu Award is considered the highest engineering award in China’s building-waterproofing industry.

The roof renovation project was initiated in 2021, with Sands China and Genyield Construction maintaining high levels of coordination to complete the job. They selected the latest coating technology from a local Macau brand that meets international standards, ensuring the roof effectively blocks UV rays, reduces indoor temperatures and achieves energy cost savings.

The Jinyu Award, established by the China National Construction Waterproof Association, recognizes projects that demonstrate outstanding performance in terms of waterproofing engineering scale, construction difficulty, use of environmentally friendly materials and engineering quality. It is the highest award in the engineering category, awarded annually.

The teamwork demonstrated by both parties during the project was a key factor in winning the 2024 Jinyu Award Gold Award. This is the second time that Sands China Ltd and Genyield Construction have jointly received this honor.

Grant Chum, CEO and Executive Director of Sands China Ltd, said, “This prestigious accolade highlights the outstanding capabilities and growth potential of Macau’s SMEs and reflects the professionalism of our facility management team. In selecting our partners, we consistently uphold our business philosophy of growing and supporting SMEs, providing opportunities to local contractors to complete extremely large-scale, high-level projects, where their expertise can shine.

“This award-winning project stood out in a national competition, delivering remarkable results and fostering a win-win scenario for all parties involved. It serves as yet another testament to Sands China’s steadfast commitment to supporting the development of SMEs.”
