Caritas Macau launches “Caritas Affectionate Cake” social enterprise bakery

  • Caritas Macau has launched a new social enterprise called “Caritas Affectionate Cake.”
  • The project aims to bring a healing, people-centered sense of comfort into the everyday life of residents through the warmth of baking.

Since its establishment in 1951, Caritas Macau has upheld the Christian spirit of charity and compassion, offering long-term support to vulnerable groups in the community and quietly caring for those in need.

As society has developed and service needs have shifted, Caritas’ work has evolved from early-stage material relief into a more professional and diversified service system. Guided by the principle of “helping people to help themselves,” Caritas accompanies service users as they rebuild skills and confidence in their daily lives.

In recent years, public attention on mental health has continued to grow. In response to the stress and emotional challenges brought about by the faster pace of urban life, Caritas Macau has officially launched a brand-new social enterprise project – “Caritas Affectionate Cake.” Through the warmth of baking, the project aims to bring a healing, people-centered sense of comfort into everyday life, offering city residents emotional solace and positive support.

According to Caritas, the concept of “Caritas Affectionate Cake” is simple and gentle: “We believe that enjoying desserts in moderation is not only a treat for the taste buds but also adds a small yet genuine sense of happiness to ordinary days.”

More than just a bakery that provides healthy, high-quality pastries, “Caritas Affectionate Cake” is also an important platform where persons with disabilities and individuals in recovery can realize their self-worth.

“Caritas Affectionate Cake” is now in operation on Rua Nova de S. Lázaro. Drawing on years of service experience and existing strengths, Caritas runs the project through a flexible social enterprise model. It offers trainees a workplace-like training environment, enabling them to learn baking techniques as well as front-of-house customer service and operational procedures through hands-on practice.
