• Four local Macau artists have created bespoke installations, following the theme of “Legacy of Light and Craft.”
• SJM’s lantern art exhibition is free of charge and runs until 15 November.

For the fifth consecutive year, SJM Resorts, S.A. (SJM) has joined forces with the Macau Artist Society to present the lantern art exhibition.

Embracing the theme “Legacy of Light and Craft,” four local Macau artists have created bespoke installations that bring traditional craftsmanship into dialogue with contemporary lantern design. The works invite residents and visitors to explore Macau’s cultural threads and the city’s festive warmth.

The kick-off ceremony was held at Jardim Secreto, at Grand Lisboa Palace, and officiated by Jennifer Si Tou – Deputy Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office; Daisy Ho – Managing Director of SJM; Ho Hong Pan – Head of the Department of Performing Arts Development of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government; and Lok Hei – President of the Macau Artist Society.

Ahead of the ceremony, SJM hosted an Artist Sharing Session, where the four participating artists engaged with more than 100 local university students, sharing insights into their creative processes and the inspiration they draw from traditional craftsmanship.

Speaking of the special initiave, SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho said, “Lantern art is deeply rooted in Chinese history and culture, with enduring associations of reunion and celebration. SJM is committed to preserving this heritage. Through collaboration with artists across disciplines, we seek to give time-honored craftsmanship innovative relevance and allow it to flourish in a contemporary context.

“We also hope to support Macau’s creative industries, strengthen the synergies of ‘Tourism + Culture,’ and reinforce Macau’s role as ‘a base for exchange and cooperation where Chinese culture is the mainstream and diverse cultures coexist,’ enriching cultural tourism offerings for Macau,” she noted.
