• Sands China and CIPA premiered five locally produced micro movies under the 2nd Micro Movie Support Program.
• The program funds local filmmakers to produce their micro movies.

The 2nd Micro Movie Support Program held a premiere for its five selected works in early October at The Londoner Macao.

The annual program, organized by the Creative Industries Promotion Association of St. Lazarus Church District (CIPA) and sponsored by Sands China Ltd for two consecutive years, utilizes the “New Art Studies in Filming Program” to provide training and strengthen participants’ skills such as directing, screenwriting, acting, make-up artistry, editing and special effects.

This year, 20 teams submitted scripts for the program. Following evaluation by a panel of professional judges, five teams were selected to receive funding to produce their original short films. The five films – “Boy In White”, “Even as an Adult”, “Seventeen”, “Performance” and “Memento of Parents” – each took six months to complete from filming through post-production, with over 150 crew members participating.

Dr Wilfred Wong, Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd, stated, “Sands China is very pleased to support these talented local filmmakers by sponsoring the Micro Movie Support Program. The program is an important contributor to the government’s efforts to nurture local film talent, in line with Macau’s policy of moderate economic diversification and ‘tourism + culture’.

“Today’s premiere spotlights some of the most up-and-coming local filmmakers who have used their platform to creatively explore topics like social issues, interpersonal relationships and spiritual growth. We hope these and other young filmmakers will gain valuable practical experience through the project and continue to create exciting works in the future, showcasing Macau’s unique culture to the world and achieving success in their film careers.”

Since its inception in 2011, the program has trained approximately 380 participants and produced over 40 short films and micro-movies.
