Orbis Macau wraps up 2025 Action for Sight campaign

  • 2025 Action for Sight campaign officially concluded on 5 December.
  • Over 80% of respondents to a survey reported not having annual eye exams and nearly 40% had never undergone a vision check.

The two-month long “2025 Action for Sight” campaign officially concluded on 5 December. On the final day, Orbis Macau organized a series of activities, including a Free Eye Screening Day and an Eye Health Talk.

Each year, Orbis Macau launches the meaningful annual “Action for Sight” campaign in response to World Sight Day, aiming to advocate the importance of eye health and care to the public while raising critical resources to support Orbis’ sight-saving programs and sustainable training initiatives, making quality eye care accessible to areas in need.

This year, Orbis Macau collected 168 valid responses through its online survey, covering a wide age range. The data was analyzed by Ying An Medical Center and the Macau Eye Care Association, with the findings shared during the Eye Health Talk by Dr Lo Peng Iok.

“The key to preventing myopia lies in developing healthy habits,” said Dr Lo. “This includes having your eyes examined annually, getting enough sleep, reducing prolonged near-work and use of digital devices, and spending more time outdoors. Young people in particular should be mindful of limiting excessive screen time.”

According to the online survey results, nearly 75% of respondents reported having myopia, though 80% of these cases were not classified as high myopia. However, the data also revealed a worrying lack of preventive awareness: over 80% of respondents reported not having annual eye exams and nearly 40% had never undergone a vision check.

Orbis calls on everyone to cherish their vision and take proactive steps to protect their eye health, while urging all sectors of society to continue supporting its global sight-saving mission to make quality eye care accessible to more people in need.
