Orbis Flying Eye Hospital

The maiden flight in 1982 of the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital (FEH) of Orbis launched the legacy of innovation that has continued to define the sight-saving work of Orbis. Since the iconic flight, three generations of FEH have taken training to eye care teams in over 95 countries around the world to provide essential and quality eye care support.

Guided by a steadfast mission to prevent and treat avoidable blindness, and compassionately supported by altruistic donors, partners and Volunteer Faculty that Orbis has been able to deliver targeted life-transforming sight-saving programs and sustainable training to low- and middle-income countries and regions. Over the past 41 years, Orbis has conducted tens of millions of eye screenings and carried out eye surgeries and laser treatments for hundreds of thousands of patients. Orbis has also trained hundreds of thousands of eye care professionals at all levels – including tens of thousands of medical doctors. These trained professionals go on to provide sight-saving care in their communities and, in many cases, go on to train other local eye care professionals themselves.
