Charitable group Oxfam’s annual flagship fundraising campaign, Oxfam Rice Event 2026, has been successfully held across multiple locations in Macau. Marking the 15th year of the event in the city, this year’s campaign continued under the theme “Empower smallholder farmers. Change lives with an Oxfam rice packet.” The first day received an enthusiastic response, attracting many residents, families and visitors to take part.

The two-day event was held from 16 to 17 May, with 18 rice booths set up across various districts in Macau and the support of over 1,100 volunteers. Through the charity sale of Oxfam Rice Packets and themed gift items, the campaign raises funds for smallholder farmers and underprivileged communities around the world, helping them improve their livelihoods, strengthen resilience, and respond to the growing climate crisis.
This year’s Oxfam Rice Event attracted both long-time participants, new residents and visitors, who were given introductions by volunteers on how climate change affects smallholder farmers’ cultivation and income.

Oxfam pointed out that extreme weather events have become increasingly frequent in recent years, posing serious threats to smallholder farmers’ food production and livelihoods. For many years, Oxfam has been working in mainland China, developing regions in Asia, and East Africa, supporting smallholder farmers in adopting sustainable farming and disaster preparedness practices, while enhancing productivity and community resilience.
The event has received generous support from a number of local enterprises and organizations, including OpenRice, Bank of China, EVA Air, DCH Foods, BCM, CTM, and MOME Media & Marketing.
