World-class Badminton on display at “Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026”

  • Sands China co-hosts prestigious annual international badminton event for third consecutive year.
  • Community activity features campus visit by Olympic medalists Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong.

Co-organized by Sands China and the Badminton Federation of Macau (BFM), the “Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026” tournament came to a successful close on Sunday after several days of exciting matches, followed by an award ceremony held on the same day.

As an annual international badminton event jointly organized by the two parties for the third consecutive year, the tournament attracts top players from around the world to Macau each edition, further enhancing the SAR’s international profile as a “City of Sports.”

This year’s tournament was held over six consecutive days, from 16 to 21 June, at the Macao East Asian Games Dome, featuring five events: Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles. The series of high-level matches once again ignited widespread enthusiasm for badminton, with the tournament sanctioned by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), fully supported by the Sports Bureau (ID), the Cultural Affairs Bureau (ICM) and the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), with FELET serving as the official equipment sponsor.

As an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, “Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026” offered total prize money reaching US$370,000 (approximately MOP3 million), making it one of the highest-paying tournaments in this year’s BWF World Tour Super 300 series.

To allow audiences around the world to experience the world-class badminton event in real time, the organizers livestreamed all matches over the six-day tournament via the event’s official website and Youku Sports, bringing the electrifying atmosphere of the venue to viewers across the globe.

“Sands China Ltd. Macau Open Badminton 2026” brings together world-class badminton players to compete in Macau.

The tournament attracted 390 player registrations from 29 countries and regions, with 275 eligible players qualifying to compete in Macau. The star-studded line-up included Jiang Zhenbang and Wei Yaxin – the Chinese national team’s world No. 2 mixed doubles pair; Lee Zii Jia – Malaysia’s bronze medalist in men’s singles at the 2024 Olympic Games; Angus Ng Ka Long of Hong Kong, China; Teh Jia Heng of Singapore; and other top players.

On the Macau side, five local athletes also competed across the tournament’s five events: Pui Pang Fong, Leong Iok Chong, Pui Chi Chon, Ng Weng Chi and Pui Chi Wa.

As the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise to co-organize the event with the BFM, Sands China has long leveraged the tournament to deepen ties with the local community while actively fulfilling its corporate social responsibility and supporting Macau’s moderate economic diversification.

On 16 June, the two organizers jointly held a community activity featuring a campus visit by Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong – Malaysia’s men’s doubles silver medalists at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The two athletes engaged with nearly 100 participants, including students from the Ilha Verde Middle School of the Macao Chamber of Commerce and Sands Cares Ambassadors, demonstrating badminton skills and sharing techniques on coping with high-pressure competition.
