In support of International Special Olympics Day, Sands China Ltd. recently joined hands with Macau Special Olympics and the Macau Medical and Health Federation to co-organize the “2026 Special Olympics Community – Healthy Athletes Programme” at Saint Paul School Macau. The program provides professional health assessment services, offering practical support and care to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families.

The event attracted nearly 300 participants, including more than 100 dedicated volunteers and medical professionals, comprising Sands Cares Ambassadors, local student volunteers and healthcare teams from Macau and Hong Kong. Together, they provided comprehensive health screenings and professional health assessment services to nearly 150 individuals with intellectual disabilities, covering seven areas: mental health, oral health, muscle strength, foot condition, vision, hearing, and nutrition, with the aim of identifying potential health issues earlier and helping participants receive appropriate treatment and support. The free service provided helps alleviate the burden on families and caregivers regarding medical expenses and daily care.

Since its launch in 2014, the “Special Olympics Healthy Athletes Programme” has assisted more than 7,650 individuals in receiving health screenings. In the same year, Sands China established a dedicated fund to support the long-term health management and follow-up medical care of individuals with intellectual disabilities. To date, the fund has sponsored over 930 follow-up treatments and support services, enabling more MSO members in need to receive ongoing and appropriate medical care, supporting their long-term health and well-being.
At the event’s opening ceremony, Catherine Kong, Sands China’s vice president of corporate communications and community affairs, on behalf of the company presented a donation cheque totaling MOP592,900 to Hetzer Siu, Executive Director of Macau Special Olympics, in support of various key initiatives serving individuals with intellectual disabilities this year.
