Orbis Flying Eye Hospital Returns to Macau To Hold Training Program and Month-long Exhibition

  • The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital returned to Macau on 31 August, to provide advanced eye care training
  • Orbis is also hosting the month-long “Goodwill Tour” exhibition and charity sale

After a decade, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital has finally returned to Macau, launching the city’s first simulation-based professional eye care training program. Alongside the initiative, Orbis is also hosting the month-long “Goodwill Tour” exhibition and charity sale.

As an international nonprofit organization committed to preventing and treating blindness, Orbis is marking its 20th anniversary of partnering with the Macau community to advance global eye care efforts. To commemorate this milestone, the Flying Eye Hospital arrived in Macau on 31 August to conduct a special training program.

This program brings together 70 ophthalmologists and nurses from eight Orbis partner hospitals across mainland China to Macau for advanced training and professional mentorship aboard the Flying Eye Hospital and at Kiang Wu Nursing College of Macau.

The training incorporates simulation-based teaching, covering key areas such as cataracts, glaucoma, strabismus, medical retina treatments and ophthalmic nursing. Through this approach, the program enhances participants’ clinical expertise, enabling them to apply these skills throughout their careers and pass on knowledge to the next generation of eye care professionals.

Upon completing their training, the medical professionals are expected to provide high-quality ophthalmic care to more than 245,000 eye condition patients in China annually.

Additionally, from 2 September to 6 October, Orbis is holding a “Goodwill Tour” exhibition and charity sale at the Promotion and Exhibition Centre in the Arrival Hall of Taipa Ferry Terminal. At the venue, visitors can learn about global vision care practices, eye health tips and the journey of Orbis in combating blindness worldwide.
