Caritas organizes 2023 International Caritas Charity Banquet fundraiser

The 2023 International Caritas Charity Banquet organized by Caritas Macau was successfully held at Macau’s Grandview hotel on the evening of February 18. This year’s theme is ”Everything starts with caring.” There were 22 tables for the charity banquet, and a total of more than 260 people attended. Donations raised through meal coupons reached MOP$150,000.

Headquartered at the Vatican, Caritas International has more than 160 Caritas organizations around the world. The International Caritas Charity Banquet held in Macau this year aims to raise funds for the international Caritas refugee work and disaster support team. Another aim of the banquet is to raise awareness of this work.

Caritas pointed out that this year’s theme, of “Everything starts with caring,” sees Caritas International paying more attention to the needs of the poor and refugees, and providing epidemic prevention measures for their areas to avoid large-scale infections.

Paul Pun, Secretary-general of Caritas Macau

Caritas said, “The charity banquet has been suspended for the past three years due to the pandemic, with it finally being reopened smoothly this year. We have noticed that there have been many natural disasters and even wars in recent years, and there have been major earthquakes in Turkey and Syria recently. Many people in the world are anxious. Everyone needs to pay attention.

“Holding a charity banquet is one of the ways to support, but in fact we don’t just do charity in this way. I hope everyone will pay more attention to the needs of the poor and refugees and extend a helping hand to those in need.”
