Macau Women’s General Association distributes Chinese New Year “fortune bags” to 1,796 families

Organized by the Macau Women’s General Association and sponsored by the Macao Foundation, Charity Fund from the Readers of Macao Daily News and Bank of China Macau Branch, a “Chinese New Year Caring Gift-Giving Event” was successfully held on January 14. “Fortune bags” were sent to 1,796 needy families and groups in Macau, conveying new year blessings to Macau residents.

“Fortune bags” are a gift bag which shares blessings, with the sender putting a range of daily necessities in the bags and giving them to those in need. Many associations in Macau regard the distribution of such “lucky bags” as an important act of charity during Chinese New Year.

As a long-established and well-known association in Macau, the Women’s Association also undertakes this tradition of distributing lucky bags. The blessings they distributed included a variety of daily necessities, including Chinese sausages known as lap cheong, cooking oil, noodles and more.

In addition, the Women’s Association also distributed “rice aid” to 966 families in need, as well as 426 “Chinese New Year’s Consolation Fund” items, which provided monetary financial assistance from the Charity Fund from the Readers of Macao Daily News.

Ms Un Sio Leng, Vice President of the Women’s Association, said “every Chinese New Year’s Eve, the Women’s Association will distribute rice aid, lucky bags and consolation funds to those in need, and we have continued to do so for many years.

“During Chinese New Year, the Women’s Association will care for and protect the rights and interests of women, the elderly and children, and will objectively reflect public opinions to the SAR government through different channels, so as to jointly build a beautiful home in Macau.”
