To adopt pets as an alternative to buying them has become a major trend. To better promote pet adoption services and publicize the concept, the Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao (IAM) will hold 20 lectures on pet adoption from March to December this year.
The lectures are co-organized by IAM and Everyone Stray Dogs Macau Volunteer Group. The lecture content is mainly to introduce the adoption services offered by the Macao Municipal Kennel, information on dogs and cats waiting to be adopted, basic medical care for pets, and related legal information. Animal protection groups will also share their experience in adopting dogs and cats.
The event includes a visit to the Macao Municipal Kennel, allowing participants to interact with dogs and cats so that citizens can learn more about pet adoption, and at the same time provide an education platform for parents and children to recognize the value of pet life.
The lectures will be offered free of charge and held in Cantonese at the Macao Municipal Kennel in Almirante Lacerda between March and December. There will be two lectures every month. The first session will be held on 18 March from 10:00 to 11:15 and from 11:45 to 13:00.
The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) pointed out that the authorities advocate the “trap, neuter, adopt” (TNA) model, and allow captured or abandoned dogs and cats to be adopted after neutering. They work with animal protection groups, conducting visits to the homes of applicants in order to better match suitable adopters.
