Organized by Caritas Macau in collaboration with the University of Macau, the “Charity Run of Caritas Macau 2024” took place in early October at the University of Macau. The event has raised approximately MOP 640,000 (before expenses), which will be fully allocated to establish the “Wish Senior Services” social enterprise.
The event attracted 2,000 participants and saw over 40 companies and organizations join as teams. Participants could choose from multiple categories: a 10-kilometer challenge run, a 10-kilometer mixed relay, a 5-kilometer health run, a 2-kilometer easy fun run, and a virtual run. Participants who completed their respective challenges within the allotted time received commemorative medals and towels. This year, the relay race was introduced for the first time, with 15 teams competing for the top three prizes. The virtual run allowed participants to complete designated distances anytime and anywhere on 6 October to receive Charity Run souvenirs.
Caritas Macau Secretary General Paul Pun stated that the Charity Run aims to raise funds for non-subsidized projects. Along with last year’s event, the Charity Run has raised a total of MOP 1 million to support “Wish Senior Services” which provides home-based support and care services to elderly individuals in need, alleviating the burden on families who may lack the time or resources for caregiving.
The event received generous donations from various companies, including MOP 100,000 from Sands China, MOP 50,000 from Bank of China Macau Branch, MOP 30,000 each from BNU and Fidelidade Macau, MOP 20,000 each from NetCraft and MACK International Group Limited, MOP 25,000 from Melco Resorts & Entertainment, and MOP 10,000 each from CEM-Macau and Lei Weng Chong.
