In November 2024, Sands China invited representatives from 17 Macau-based tech enterprises to participate in the “Macao Technological Innovation Exploration in Lisbon”.

The itinerary included attendance at the annual Web Summit in Lisbon, Portugal – a global event bringing together startups and technology experts. Macau’s representatives participated in sessions focused on sustainability, artificial intelligence and robotics technology.

The delegation also visited leading Lisbon-based tech companies, including Portugal’s unicorn enterprise Outsystems, Sensei Tech (a European pioneer in autonomous retail technology) and Unicorn Factory. Participants engaged in workshops organized by local tech enterprises, which introduced them to key innovation methods and project types, providing a comprehensive understanding of applying innovative technologies in their fields.

Sands China executives also participated in the tour, seeking inspiration to adopt cutting-edge technologies, products and services aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing customer experiences and boosting business performance.

As part of the program, Sands China hosted a networking dinner for the Macau delegation, bringing together entrepreneurs and stakeholders from Portugal’s innovation ecosystem. The dinner served as a platform to foster connections and promote collaboration between the tech industries of the two regions.

The tour aligns with Sands China’s ongoing support for the Macau SAR government’s efforts to promote the sustainable development of smart tourism and high-tech industries.

Sands China reiterated its commitment to supporting the research and development of next-generation local high-tech products, further integrating modern technology with tourism to contribute to Macau’s vision of becoming a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
