Sands China Ltd has introduced a series of family-friendly initiatives since September, aimed at providing more comprehensive support for employees welcoming newborns. These measures further foster an inclusive and caring workplace environment, promoting family harmony among staff.
The new provisions apply to all eligible full-time staff, including up to six days of paid child care leave available within one year of a child’s birth when parents need to accompany the child to medical appointments or vaccinations. Additionally, new parents may apply for a “Parenthood Support Shift”, permitting a one-hour daily exemption from work over a consecutive 90-day period. Shift workers may opt for fixed working hours to better balance work and childcare responsibilities.
Paulo Cheong, Senior Vice President of Human Resources for Sands China Ltd, said, “Family is a vital source of strength for our teams. As Macau’s largest private employer with over 27,000 employees, Sands China has long supported the Macao SAR government’s family-friendly policies, cultivating a people-oriented corporate culture by providing flexible and diverse workplace measures for team members with family care needs.”
Sands China also provides female employees with 70 days of paid maternity leave, while male employees are entitled to take five consecutive days of paid paternity leave. The company has offered nursing rooms, dedicated lockers and parking spaces in back-of-house areas, and priority seating for expectant mothers on staff shuttle buses. Family-oriented activities and parenting education seminars are regularly organized. Furthermore, the company presents baby gifts to employees welcoming new arrivals, conveying care and well-wishes.
These initiatives demonstrate Sands China’s corporate culture of placing team members at the heart, actively supporting employees in achieving work-life balance and further advancing the development of a family-friendly environment.
