SJM Resorts, S.A., in collaboration with Bordeaux Liquid Gold, recently concluded “One Hundred Years of Liquid Gold at Mesa” at the venerated venue Mesa by José Avillez in Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau.

The exclusive dinner presented a 100-year vertical of 12 rare vintages from the legendary Château d’Yquem, from 1921 to 2021, for an audience of wine experts and enthusiasts.

The evening also spotlighted the global premiere of the unreleased 2024 ‘Y’ Ygrec dry white wine, giving guests the rare opportunity to taste a unique product nearly three months ahead of collectors and critics worldwide – setting a new benchmark for fine wine and luxury dining in Macau.

Chef José Avillez

Gerard Walker, Chief Hospitality Officer of SJM, opened the evening with welcoming remarks, alongside Portuguese Chef José Avillez (of the two-MICHELIN-starred restaurant) and Lorenzo Pasquini – Chief Executive Officer of Château d’Yquem.

Pasquini then guided guests through a century of the estate’s history, sharing the thinking behind its 400-year “one glass per vine” philosophy, the stories behind each vintage and the generational craftsmanship that defines the winery.

To match the exceptional selection, Chef Avillez created an eight-course menu capturing the contemporary essence of Portuguese cuisine, designed in concert with the legendary wines. The result was a layered pairing of haute cuisine and iconic vintage that drew warm acclaim from the guests and oenophiles in attendance.

The enthusiastic response to the event reflects SJM’s strength in curating experiences for serious connoisseurs, while  reinforcing Macau’s standing as a UNESCO “Creative City of Gastronomy.”
