In celebration of Malaysia’s National Day on 31 August and to foster cultural exchange between Macau and Malaysia, SJM Resorts, S.A. recently unveiled the “Malaysia National Day Celebration: A Gastronomic Journey Across the Nation” at The Grand Buffet in Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau.

Supported by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and the Consulate General of Malaysia in Hong Kong and Macau, the showcase harnesses the power of gastronomy to deepen residents’ and visitors’ appreciation of Malaysian culture while fostering meaningful cross-border cultural exchange and collaboration.

During the opening ceremony, Gerard Walker, Chief Hospitality Officer of SJM, said, “At SJM, we are delighted to celebrate Malaysia’s National Day through this special gastronomic showcase, which brings the rich flavors and cultural diversity of Malaysia to Macau.

“Malaysia is an important visitor source market for Macau and a valued partner in our tourism development efforts. We look forward to further strengthening ties with Malaysia’s tourism industry and welcoming more Malaysian visitors to experience Macau’s unique blend of hospitality, culture and culinary excellence.”

The event also featured a performance of Tarian Inang by a professional dance troupe. Originating as a traditional Malay dance, Tarian Inang brought the country’s cultural heritage to life through graceful and ethereal movements.

SJM said it remains committed to supporting the Macao SAR Government’s integrated “Tourism+” development strategy. By bringing outstanding international culinary experiences to Macau, SJM seeks to enrich the city’s tourism and dining offerings while further strengthening its international profile as a UNESCO “Creative City of Gastronomy.”
