Orbis Macau hosted its “2024 Action for Sight” (AFS) street fundraising and promotion events over two consecutive days in November, calling on the public to support this meaningful initiative to aid global sight-saving efforts.
The events featured booths set up at the entrance of The Affiliated School of The University of Macau in Taipa and Pui Ching Middle School in the Horta e Costa area. Fundraising and promotional activities extended beyond the booths into surrounding streets, actively engaging the local community to raise awareness and garner support.
The public were invited to drop by the AFS booth to find out more about Orbis and their sight-saving work, while picking up some useful eye health and care tips, as well as to extend a benevolent hand to support their fundraising efforts. A “Share the Joy of Sight Photo Corner” allowed attendees to capture memorable photos.
Orbis emphasized the importance of eye health, encouraging attendees to appreciate the small yet significant moments made possible through clear vision.
The Action for Sight initiative aligns with the goals of World Sight Day. Through activities like these, Orbis aims to raise public awareness about personal eye health and global eye care challenges, while simultaneously generating vital funds to support its sight-saving programs.
These programs include the prevention and treatment of blindness and vision loss in low- and middle-income countries, as well as sustainable training projects aimed at improving the quality of eye care in underserved regions. By addressing preventable blindness, Orbis strives to create long-term solutions to enhance the standard of ophthalmic care in these areas.
