Orbis Macau holds two-month annual campaign “Action for Sight 2023”

Featuring an online survey titled “Know Your Eye Health Quiz”, this year’s “Action for Sight 2023” is expected to raise the public’s awareness about the seriousness of ophthalmic issues and to provide useful information about ophthalmology to a wider audience, according to Orbis Macau.

The online survey was available for two months and collected 356 valid responses. The results indicate that more than half of respondents have not undergone a comprehensive eye examination from an ophthalmologist. Over 30% of respondents have a “moderate or above” level of eye health risk, and nearly 70% of them have never received a comprehensive eye examination.

According to the survey results the most common eye conditions experienced include “eye fatigue”, “itchy eyes” and “dry eyes”. Of the respondents, 51% believe that regular eye massage can benefit their eye health and wellness and protect their eyes, while 24% believe that rubbing their eyes will help relieve eye fatigue. Dr Lo Peng Iok from Ying An Medical Center reveals that massaging too hard can put pressure on the eyeball, which may induce floaters and flashes of light. Excessive retinal pulling may also cause retinal tears, resulting in concurrent retinal detachment.

The campaign strives to encourage the community to pay attention to the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness.
