Last weekend, Macau’s first autism organization – Kanner’s Home for the Autistic – organized a two-day parent-child trip to mainland China, taking about 80 members and their families to explore Sanshui, Guangdong, and experience the local culture and cuisine. The event was supported by the Macau Social Welfare Bureau.

The theme of the trip was “Discovering the Greater Bay Area’s Culinary Delights – Exploring the Longevity Town of Sanshui”. It enabled members to engage in social training through travel, enhance their life skills and foster interaction and harmony between parents and children.

On 23 August, the family group departed from the Gongbei Port and headed to Benhuan Temple within Sanshui Forest Park, where they admired traditional temple architecture and offered prayers for blessings. They then proceeded to the karting track in the forest park, where members and parents drove karts together, experiencing speed and fun.

The second day’s itinerary focused on craftsmanship and agricultural experiences. The group first visited Jiang Gen Village in Kundushan to enjoy the natural scenery, followed by a tour of the Guangdong En-Snow Group beverage factory to learn about the beverage production process. Finally, they went to the Kangxi Lai picking base to experience the fun of farming, picking grapes and vegetables with their own hands and enjoying the rural life.

Mandy, President of the Kanner’s Home for the Autistic, stated that this trip not only broadened the horizons of the members but also enhanced their social and life skills. Approximately 40 families participated, strengthening family bonds and harmony through parent-child interaction.

She also revealed that Kanner’s Home for the Autistic will host a parent-child cooking competition next month. By working together to prepare dishes, the event aims to enhance the focus and sense of achievement of children, further promoting the comprehensive growth and development of members.
