The second edition of the “International Series Macau presented by Wynn”, boasting a total prize pool of US$2 million, concluded on 23 March at the Macau Golf and Country Club.

Mexican golfer Carlos Ortiz secured the title after shooting 22-under par, including a final day six-under-par 64, to beat Patrick Reed by three strokes and pocket US$360,000 in prize money.

Reed carded a 67 on the final day to finish runner-up at 19-under, while Jason Kokrak also shot 67 to claim third place at 16-under.

This tournament, the second of the Asian Tour’s 10 premium events of the year, received R&A certification this year, making it a qualifying event for The Open Qualifying Series for 2025. It is one of 15 qualifying events held across 11 countries and regions worldwide.

The event featured 17 top players from the LIV Golf League, including three Major champions alongside multiple Asian Tour winners and emerging talents from across Asia.

The top three finishers – Ortiz, Reed and Kokrak – earned direct qualification for 153rd The Open, the fourth Major of the year, to be held in July 2025 at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

Major champion Sergio Garcia finished with a 65, placing fourth at 15-under-par for the tournament. Fellow Major winner Graeme McDowell shot a 69, finishing tied for 40th at 4-under-par overall.

Chinese mainland golfer Wu Ashun posted a 71 in the final round, ending at 6-under-par overall, sharing 26th place with 2024 tournament champion John Catlin, who shot a final-round 68.

Hong Kong’s Taichi Kho delivered a stellar 65 to finish tied for sixth at 13-under.

“I really felt my progress this week,” said Kho. “The course was very challenging, especially with the fast greens. This event has definitely boosted my confidence.”

Local Macau golfer Kelvin Si made four birdies and two bogeys in the final round, finishing with a 68. His four-round total of 8-under-par lifted him to a tie for 19th, marking his best professional result to date. Post-tournament, Si said he was pleased with his performance, adding that 2025 is his first full season as a professional and his debut year on the Asian Tour. He expressed hope of retaining his tour card when he returns to competition in May.

Linda Chen, President, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Wynn Macau, Limited, said, “We are pleased to celebrate the successful conclusion of this year’s tournament and we would also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Macao SAR Government for their continued support in making this world-class golf event a resounding success.

“Over the past few days, the players have demonstrated exceptional talent and sportsmanship, taking the competition to an even higher level in Macau.”

Chen further noted that, “Moving forward, Wynn will continue to fully support the Government’s ‘1+4’  appropriate diversification development strategy by hosting an array of enticing events for tourists and residents of Macau in partnership with a variety of stakeholders throughout the community.”

Launched in 2022 by the Asian Tour in partnership with LIV Golf, the International Series comprises 10 premium events offering higher prize money, world-class venues and a key pathway to LIV Golf for players worldwide.

Golf Experience Day with Macau Special Olympics
At the tournament’s opening ceremony, the International Series donated US$25,000 to the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) to support the development of sports talent in Macau. Rahul Singh, Head of The International Series, and Chen jointly presented the cheque, accepted by MSO Executive Director Siu Yu Hong and an athlete representative.

During the tournament, Wynn partnered with the International Series to invite Macau Special Olympics athletes to a “Golf Experience Day” at the Macau Golf and Country Club. Mainland golfers Liang Wenchong and Sampson Zheng, along with Macau’s Si, joined the coaching clinic, sharing chipping and putting techniques with 30 MSO athletes. Guests in attendance included Chen, Siu and renowned Hong Kong celebrities Simon Yam and Angelababy.

When asked about the purpose of the event, Singh explained that the International Series has consistently supported local sports development and hopes to contribute to Macau’s vision of nurturing sports talent through the MSO.

MSO athlete Tam Chan Kit, who participated, said, “That was a fun clinic. It is great to hear from these accomplished golfers who have shown what it takes to get to the top of their chosen field.”

Mainland golfer Zheng Yunhe added, “Promoting golf across society is hugely meaningful. We had a lot of fun and hopefully the Macau Special Olympics athletes got something out of it.”

Chen said the golf experience event, co-hosted with the MSO, reflects Wynn’s commitment to fostering social inclusion through sports and unlocking the boundless potential of MSO athletes.

She further emphasized her hope that this initiative would connect the community, promote the spirit of sportsmanship and contribute to the diversified development of sports and tourism in Macau.
