Macau European Chamber of Commerce hosts 11th Gala Dinner

  • The MECC has hosted its major event, a Gala Dinner, for 11 consecutive years.
  • This year’s Gala Dinner attracted 330 guests, with the 2025 MECC Euro Excellence Awards also presented at the event.

The Macau European Chamber of Commerce (MECC) held its 11th Gala Dinner on 16 May at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, attracting 330 guests. The event’s primary vision was to promote deeper connections between Portugal, Macau and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area. Mr Tai Kin Ip, Secretary for Economy and Finance, joined Macao SAR, Central Government, European diplomats and business leaders at the gathering.

MECC is the first affiliation of European Chambers in the Macao SAR which aims to promote commercial, industrial, financial, scientific and other economic exchanges of all types between Macau and Europe, as well as to foster bilateral cooperation among the business communities, thereby helping diversify Macau’s economy.

The Gala Dinner is a major event organized by MECC each year. This year’s dinner was themed “Waves of Portugal”, paying tribute to Portugal’s maritime culture and its achievements in economics, technology, green energy and the blue economy.

Dr Ambrose So, Honorary Chairman of MECC, highlighted the alignment between Portugal and China in the blue economy and green transition, emphasizing the value of Portugal’s experience.

Ambassador and Head of the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macau, Harvey Rouse, attending for the first time, was named MECC Honorary Chairman and highlighted the EU’s role as Macau’s second-largest trading partner and its support for economic diversification.

Mr Rui Pedro Cunha, MECC President, highlighted the gala’s alignment with the 50th anniversary of EU-China diplomatic ties. He expressed hope that global uncertainty would foster closer cooperation, with Macau serving as a bridge between East and West.

At the dinner, the 2025 MECC Euro Excellence Awards recognized companies for outstanding performance across various sectors. Honorees included SABA Hospitality Technology Solutions, Zeko Construction and Engineering, Chénson, Artyzen Habitat Hengqin, Grande Hotel Macau, Great Time and Sociedade Industrial de Macau, The Rainbow Group and Don Alfonso 1890 Restaurant.
