The “MGM Artistic Swimming Elite Extravaganza & Macao Open Competition 2025” concluded at the end of June at the Olympic Sports Centre – Aquatic Centre in Taipa, drawing more than 10,000 spectators and online viewers.
Co-organized by the Swimming Association of Macao, China and MGM, and supported by the Sports Bureau and the Macao Government Tourism Office, the event featured show-stopping performances by China’s National Artistic Swimming Team, the Beijing Artistic Swimming Team and the Guangdong Derun Artistic Swimming Team.
A highlight of the initiative was a special training class that enabled young athletes to engage directly with elite performers. Divided into groups, the participants learned new techniques, co-created routines and received feedback and encouragement from top-tier swimmers , fostering teamwork and inspiration.
The competition itself attracted 200 athletes from 18 teams representing China and foreign countries, each showcasing remarkable artistry and skill in pursuit of top honors. For many young athletes, the event was a unique opportunity to learn from champions and connect with peers from around the world.
Beyond the pool, visiting athletes participated in community and cultural activities, including visits to the Mong Ha Elderly Center and POLY MGM MUSEUM, as well as attending the “Macau 2049” residency show and a digital art exhibition on the Civilization of Ancient Shu.
National team member Cheng Wentao expressed her hope that the event would inspire young athletes to pursue their dreams, while overseas participant Logan Verdugo Waldron praised Macau’s cultural richness and the welcoming atmosphere of the event.
