To celebrate the 26th anniversary of Macau’s return to the motherland, the Macau Reunification Cup Youth Music Competition Grand Final, organized by Macau Youth Arts Association (MYAA), will take place in October. The preliminary rounds of the competition concluded in July.

Registration for the final round will begin on 15 September, with the event scheduled to take place on 14 and 15 October at the Macau Science Centre. Renowned local and domestic musicians will be invited to serve as judges.

The competition consists of piano, plucking, string, wind and percussion groups, each with four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and professional. Each group has gold, silver, bronze, excellent and good awards. Among them, the Gold Prize winners of the final round will be invited to participate in the “Celebration of the 26th Anniversary of Macau’s Return to the Motherland Cultural Performance”.

The judging panel features several esteemed musicians from both mainland China and Macau, including Macau’s young cellist Leong Wing Sam and former piano professor at the China-Austria Joint Music University, Lu Yao.

Events such as the Macau Reunification Cup Youth Music Competition play a crucial role in shaping the city’s cultural development. They not only foster artistic literacy and a sense of national identity among local youth but also highlight Macau’s multicultural character through performances that blend Chinese and Western musical traditions. This effort supports Macau’s broader strategy for moderate economic diversification – positioning cultural and creative industries as vibrant drivers of progress while expanding educational and artistic opportunities for future generations.

MYAA said it hopes to showcase Macau’s social progress and artistic achievements since its return to China through this competition, while also fostering a deeper love and sense of belonging towards local culture among Macau’s youth and children and further promoting the development of Macau’s cultural and artistic scene.
