- MGM is looking to spark youth creativity with the return of “Macau Space Dream Project”.
- The initiative aims to ignite curiosity and nurture future talent in science and innovation for Macau.
MGM, in partnership with the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau (MAPST) and the Chinese Society of Astronautics (CSA), launched the “MGM Youth Popular Science series: Macau Space Dream Project” for the second year. This initiative, CSA’s first-ever science education project in Macau and honored as an “Outstanding Event of the 2024 National Science Popularization Day” by the China Association for Science and Technology, aims to nurture curiosity and innovation among the city’s next generation.
The project’s opening ceremony, held at MGM MACAU on 24 May, welcomed over 350 local students, teachers and technology professionals. Building on last year’s success, the “Macau Space Dream Project” stands as Macau’s first educational program dedicated to space science and payload technology, structured around “Learning, Practice and Research.”
Spanning six months, the initiative features two cornerstone activities: the “Macau Youth Creative Design Competition of Space Experiment” for high school students from Forms 1 to 5, and the “Call from Deep Space” Experiential Camp for Primary 5 and 6 students. The competition sees teams of high schoolers receiving training from national aerospace experts, exploring China’s achievements in aerospace and submitting experiment proposals to be judged by CSA specialists and local professionals. Top winners will join a study tour in mainland China, while the champion team will represent Macau at the “2025 International Space Science and Scientific Payload Competition” in Hong Kong later this year.
Meanwhile, primary students will experience the world of aerospace through the “Call from Deep Space” camp, where they tackle space-themed missions in an interactive script game, experiment with AI and rocket science, and build their own satellite models and water rockets. Outstanding young participants may also join a study trip to Zhuhai and visit the POLY MGM MUSEUM.
Kenneth Feng, President and Executive Director of MGM China, stated that MGM is deeply committed to nurturing young talent with innovative thinking. He noted that, in line with the Macao SAR Government’s policy to enhance overall scientific literacy, the company has further enriched the program this year by organizing lectures with national aerospace experts and arranging exclusive visits to aerospace research facilities in mainland China for outstanding participants. He also mentioned that students are invited to visit the POLY MGM MUSEUM and attend the Macau 2049 residency show to experience the integration of technology and culture. According to Feng, MGM aspires to cultivate science talent in Macau and support China’s “new quality productive forces”.
Chui Sai Peng Jose, President of the MAPST, emphasized the importance of fostering innovation and hands-on experience for young people, while Jiang Jun, Vice Secretary-General of the CSA, noted that the “Macau Space Dream Project” is the first of its kind in the city and will continue with further camps and competitions in 2025.
The project is advised by a range of government departments and organizations, including the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR, the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ) and the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT).
Beyond this project, MGM continues to support science education with the MAPST, including the 2025 National Youth Science Camp and the launch of its sub-camp in Macau.
