“Macau 2049” residency show earns national recognition for cultural tourism innovation

The visionary residency show “Macau 2049”, a collaboration between MGM and renowned Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, has received the “6th China Cultural Tourism Pioneer Award 2025” from the China Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (CAAPA). The accolade recognizes the show’s pioneering role in reimagining intangible cultural heritage, advancing technological performance, promoting Chinese culture globally and achieving exceptional artistic and international standards.

The award ceremony took place in Qingdao, Shandong, where representatives from “Macau 2049” proudly accepted the honor. The show was selected after two rounds of rigorous evaluation by over 20 leading experts in China’s cultural and tourism sectors. Judges praised “Macau 2049” for its visionary integration of traditional Chinese aesthetics with state-of-the-art technology, setting new benchmarks for innovation in cultural tourism content.

Set against a futuristic backdrop, “Macau 2049” fuses dynamic stage architecture, giant LED screens, air fountains, artificial intelligence and biomimetic dirigibles. By weaving elements of Chinese intangible cultural heritage into immersive performing arts, the show reinforces Macau’s reputation as a “City of Performing Arts” while providing international visitors with a captivating window into Chinese culture.

MGM said its plans for “Macau 2049” to continue to develop new content, exploring more cross-disciplinary collaborations and continuing to expand its influence on the global stage.
The award ceremony was held alongside the 2nd China Theme Park Strategic Marketing Summit, which convened industry leaders in cultural tourism, theme parks and creative experiences from across the country.
