Fulfilling CSR through education: Britcham empowers students with Annual Fund Raising Ball support

  • The British Chamber of Commerce in Macao held its Annual Fund-Raising Ball 2025 at StarWorld Hotel in June.
  • Half of the funds raised will be used to help local students realize their academic and career dreams.

The British Chamber of Commerce in Macao (Britcham Macao) held its Annual Fund Raising Ball at StarWorld Hotel on 14 June. Themed “Magic, Myths & Legends”, this year’s event attracted 187 guests and raised over MOP 150,000. Half of the proceeds will go to the Chamber’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Fund to support local students in their educational journeys.

The 2025 Ball continued the Chamber’s long-standing commitment to education-focused CSR. Between 2010 and 2024, Britcham has disbursed a total of MOP 780,000 in fellowship support and awarded Community Fellowships through schools and universities to financially challenged local Macau students. This year’s fellowship covers tuition, accommodation and return flights to the UK for life changing experiences.

Past fellows include Katrina Xian (2019), who completed her Master’s with distinction at Imperial College London and now works as a bioinformatician at the University of Cambridge.

In 2024, Khaela Vallo joined the Oxford Certificate Programme at Worcester College. Her moving reflection captured the value of the journey, stating, “This wasn’t only academic it was a leap into self-discovery. Oxford embraced me with new perspectives, unexpected friendships and the courage to grow beyond my fears.”

In addition to overseas academic opportunities, Britcham provides financial assistance to eligible students each year through its CSR Fund, helping them cover essential education-related costs. The Chamber also supports wider initiatives such as the Macao-Wide English Essay Competition (MEEC), encouraging critical thinking and writing skills among Macau’s youth.

The event’s success was made possible by generous sponsors Galaxy Entertainment Group, Lord Stow Bakery, BNU, Jardine Matheson, Light & Wonder, Melco, MGM, Sands China, Tong Lei, MSS Recruitment, MAO Architects and Artyzen Grand Lapa. Their support and that of all guests ensured another memorable and meaningful celebration of community investment and student potential.
