With the 15th National Games , the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD) and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) drawing ever closer, preparations for the Macau leg of the events are now in full swing. Among these preparations, the training and mobilization of the volunteer team has become a focal point. This initiative not only underpins the smooth operation of the events but also provides Macau’s youth with a valuable opportunity to participate in a national-level event.
Volunteer recruitment for the Macau events commenced in February 2023, reaching its target within a short period. Applications will reopen from 6 to 10 March 2025 to allow more citizens to participate. According to official data, Macau anticipates recruiting approximately 3,500 volunteers across seven sporting disciplines, including table tennis, women’s volleyball and 3×3 basketball.
Volunteers must complete a systematic training program comprising theoretical modules and practical exercises. Theoretical components cover Macau’s history and culture, fundamental volunteer service principles and an overview of the 15th National Games. Practical training involves event simulations and role-specific internships delivered by the organizing committee and partners. Volunteers are required to follow management directives, adhere to duty assignments and uphold confidentiality obligations.
Volunteer posts span a wide range of functions, including competition support, venue logistics, venue guidance, marketing and ticketing, anti-doping, media assistance, information technology, protocol services, and reception. Training began in April, with role-specific assessments conducted throughout May and June to prepare volunteers for their designated responsibilities. Upon completing training, volunteers will participate in operational trials for the Games, demonstrating the spirit of Macau’s youth and the city’s charm with utmost enthusiasm and professionalism.
The government is also committed to providing convenient registration channels, including the official website of the Macau event, the “Macau One Account” platform, and the dedicated mobile application “Volunteers of the Macau Area National Games”, encouraging citizens to participate.
Volunteers are not only a vital pillar for the event’s success but also gain invaluable experience through participation in major national-level activities. They develop teamwork, communication, coordination and adaptability skills, enhancing personal qualities and social responsibility. This is not merely a service experience but a journey of growth and honor.
